SHEIN R.I.S.E. Student Designer Challenge Terms & Conditions
Welcome to the SHEIN R.I.S.E. Student Designer Challenge! By entering and participating in this competition, you agree to the following terms and conditions.
1. Eligibility
1.1. To enter the competition, all participants must meet the following criteria on the submission date:
  • 1.1.1. Be at least 18 years old.
  • 1.1.2. Be currently studying at a school in Australia.
  • 1.1.3. Submit one complete look (top, bottom, dress, etc.).
  • 1.1.4. Not be an employee, immediate family member of an employee, or a contractor of the SHEIN group of companies.
  • 1.1.5. Submit all applications in English.
1.2. If you cannot provide proof of meeting these criteria upon request, SHEIN may disqualify your entry, reject your participation, withhold any prize, or require the repayment of any monetary award.
1.3. By submitting your work, you agree to participate in the sample garment production process and attend the offline runway show if selected.
1.4. The first-place winner must submit their work in CAD format to the SHEIN X website. Additional agreements will be made between the winner and SHEIN. Learn more about SHEIN X, please visit: https://www.discoversheinx.com/ .
2. Entry Submission
2.1. The competition opens for entries on 4th, July, 2024, at 00:01 and closes on 2nd, August, 2024, at 12:00 PM (AEST). Entries submitted after this deadline will not be considered.
2.2. To enter, submit one design per entry. Your design should include one or more items that form a complete look. Upload your design through our dedicated competition web portal. Each entry must include:
  • 2.2.1. The name and description of your design, which will be used in all communication and media coverage.
  • 2.2.2. An explanation of your design and the inspiration behind it, along with your personal motivation.
  • 2.2.3. An explanation of the development process behind your design.
  • 2.2.4. Digital images of your design, including digital (computer-aided) sketches (hand-drawn sketches are not accepted).
2.3. All entries must be submitted in English.
2.4. Only one entry per person is allowed. Multiple submissions from the same entrant may result in disqualification.
2.5. SHEIN reserves the right to reject or disqualify any entries that:
  • 2.5.1. Are incomplete or do not meet the selection criteria.
  • 2.5.2. Contain designs that have been commercially exploited or publicly released.
  • 2.5.3. Include profanity, pornography, or indecent content.
  • 2.5.4. Are considered offensive or inappropriate, or could negatively impact SHEIN's reputation.
  • 2.5.5. Breach any applicable laws or regulations.
  • 2.5.6. Infringe on third-party rights, including intellectual property rights.
2.6. All costs associated with submitting entries will be borne by the entrants. Submitted entries will not be returned.
2.7. SHEIN reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who breaches these terms and conditions or brings SHEIN or its affiliates into disrepute.
2.8. Entrants may withdraw their entry from the Competition at any time by providing 15 working days' prior written notice to SHEIN.
3. Judging process
3.1. The entries will be judged based on the selection criteria and timelines specified on the website. The judging process includes:
First Round
  • 3.1.1. Our internal panel, made up of SHEIN's retail and fashion teams, will screen all entries to ensure they meet the competition rules.
  • 3.1.2. The decisions of the internal judges are final and binding.
Second Round
  • 3.1.3. Selected entries will be announced on the SHEIN website and put to a public vote.
  • 3.1.4. Public votes will account for 30% of the final score.
  • 3.1.5. If we suspect any manipulation of votes, SHEIN reserves the right to disqualify those entries.
  • 3.1.6. The top 20 entries from the public vote will move on to the final round, reviewed by 3-6 independent fashion experts.
  • 3.1.7. The decisions of the top 20 entries from the public vote are final and binding.
Third/Final Round
  • 3.1.8. The top 20 finalists will be invited to a runway show. If any finalist cannot complete the sample garment production, their spot will be rolled over.
  • 3.1.9. At the runway show, professional judges will score each finalist based on theme(30%), creativity(40%), and commercial appeal(30%) .
  • 3.1.10. This round accounts for 70% of the final score.
3.2. Scores from the second and third rounds will be combined to determine the top three winners.
3.3. The decisions of the expert judges are final and binding.
3.4. SHEIN reserves the right to offer an alternative prize of equal or higher value if necessary.
3.5. Prizes are subject to a prize agreement between SHEIN and the winners. If a winner does not meet the eligibility criteria, refuses the prize, cannot participate, or fails to enter into the prize agreement within 7 days of notification, SHEIN reserves the right to select another winner.
4. Rewards & Opportunities
4.1. All 20 finalists will get the chance to showcase their designs in a runway show judged by industry experts.
4.2. Prize Breakdown:
  • First Place: AUD $10,000
  • Second Place: AUD $5,000
  • Third Place: AUD $3,000
4.3. The first-place winner will receive professional mentorship from industry authorities.
4.4. The first-place winner will join the SHEIN X program, where their work will be manufactured and sold globally online. They will earn a commission on each sale.
4.5. With participants' consent, suitable contestants may be invited to join other SHEIN projects.
4.6. SHEIN will comply with all relevant tax obligations. Winners are responsible for their own income taxes as per local laws.
4.7. Prizes are non-exchangeable and non-transferable.
5. Publicity & Media
5.1 By entering the competition, entrants agree to participate in any publicity or promotional activities related to the competition.
5.2 Entrants grant SHEIN (and its sublicensees) full, unlimited rights to use any materials recorded featuring them at promotional events.
6. Intellectual Property Rights
6.1. By entering the competition, each entrant grants SHEIN a worldwide, irrevocable, sublicensable, perpetual, and royalty-free license to use, display, publish, disseminate, edit, and adapt their submitted materials in any and all media for the purposes of advertising or promoting the Competition and SHEIN. This includes promoting, organizing, and marketing the Competition, announcing and celebrating the winners, and promoting any future similar competitions.
6.2. Entrants acknowledge that securing intellectual property rights for their designs is their responsibility. SHEIN is not responsible for obtaining or verifying any intellectual property rights related to the designs.
6.3. All intellectual property rights in the designs shall remain with the entrants unless otherwise agreed. Participation in the competition does not assign or license any intellectual property rights in the designs to SHEIN.
7. Warranties & Indemnities
7.1. By submitting an entry, each entrant:
  • 7.1.1. Acknowledges that their entry will be publicly available and can be shared by the general public across various media channels;
  • 7.1.2. Represents and warrants that they are eligible to enter the competition and have the right, capacity, and authority to agree to these terms and conditions;
  • 7.1.3. Represents and warrants that all statements made and information provided to SHEIN in relation to the competition are true and correct;
  • 7.1.4. Represents and warrants that the designs are their original creation and that they are the sole owner of any intellectual property rights in the designs;
  • 7.1.5. Represents and warrants that the designs have not been licensed to any third party and will not be licensed to any third party without SHEIN's prior approval;
  • 7.1.6. Represents and warrants that the designs do not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.
7.2. Entrants agree to fully indemnify, keep indemnified, and hold harmless SHEIN and its group of companies against all costs, expenses (including legal expenses), damages, losses, or liabilities suffered or incurred by SHEIN and/or its group of companies arising from or in connection with (i) any claim resulting from the entrant's participation in the competition or any competition-related activity, (ii) any claim by a third party that the designs infringe their intellectual property rights, and (iii) any breach of these terms and conditions by the entrant.
8. Liability
8.1. Nothing in these terms and conditions shall limit or exclude the liability of any party for death or personal injury caused by that party's negligence, fraud, or any other liability which cannot by law be validly limited or excluded.
8.2. Subject to clause 8.1, SHEIN shall not be responsible for, and will have no liability for, any and all claims, suits, losses, damages, or costs of any kind, including, without limitation, death and bodily injury, arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation in the competition or any competition-related activity, or from acceptance, receipt, possession, and/or use of any prize.
9. Personal Data
9.1. By entering the competition, entrants consent to SHEIN collecting, using, and disclosing their personal information for the purposes of administering the competition, for SHEIN's internal business and analytics purposes, and as otherwise permitted or required by law. This personal information will be processed by SHEIN Distribution Australia Pty Limited as the Data Controller and in accordance with the SHEIN privacy policy applicable to your region ( https://au.shein.com/Right-to-Access-a-1047.html ).
9.2. According to SHEIN's Privacy Policy, you can exercise your privacy rights. If you believe that SHEIN is not processing your personal data in compliance with applicable privacy laws, you have the right to consult the Data Protection Authority of your country.
10. General
10.1. The competition is organized and administered by Shein Distribution Australia Pty Ltd.
10.2. SHEIN will not be responsible for any system, technical, third-party, or natural circumstances or failures that prevent the receipt and/or judging of an entry.
10.3. SHEIN reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend the competition for any reason, including causes beyond its control that interfere with the administration or proper execution of the competition. In such case, SHEIN shall not bear any and all costs associated with entering the competition.
10.4. SHEIN reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time without notice by publishing updated terms and conditions on the website.
10.5. Where these terms are provided in a language other than English, in the event of any conflict or inconsistency, the English version shall apply.
10.6. The competition shall be governed by Australian law and is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Australian courts.
